About us
We are Pennie and Richard, and we have both loved and owned dogs for our entire lives. We live in the countryside at the edge of Romney Marsh.
We have both always had dogs since we can remember. We’ve owned a variety of breeds including three Rough Collies, a Poodle, a Bearded Collie, two Labradors, and more recently our beautiful mixed breed, Tilly the Cavapoo who passed away in February. We are used to differing personality traits and similarities in certain breeds. The beautiful dogs we have owned and cared for have ranged from puppies to adult rescues. We have also looked after a variety of dogs for friends and family, over the years. These include poodle mixes such as Cavapoos, Cockapoos and Poochons, Bichon Frise, Lhasa Apsos, Springer Spaniels, Beagles and Great Danes.
Earlier this year, we lost our beautiful family dog, Tilly, aged 15. With much time, care and love to give, we have chosen now, to start home dog boarding. We have made this our full time job, so we can devote all of our time to care for the specific, individual needs of your dog.
We have spent time, money and effort into adapting our home and garden to make sure that it will meet the needs of your dog and to ensure that we comply to licensing regulations, so you can be sure that your dog will be safe with us.
We have experience in looking after dogs with cancer, heart conditions, blindness, deafness, small seizures and post operative care. We also have a lot of experience in dealing with senior dogs, general anxiety and separation anxiety. We do have a particular soft spot for elderly dogs.
We will provide a safe, caring and loving home from home holiday for your cherished doggies…….and they will be treated as if they are part of the family whilst staying with us.
Our home
Your dog will be welcomed into our home like family, as if it were their own. They may lay on any furniture, our beds, blankets or dog beds. Your dog may wander from room to room, go freely into the secure garden and play outside in the paddling pool or lay in the sun or the shaded area.
We have extra heaters for the winter, and extra fans, cooling mats and cool coats for the summer. We also have a paddling pool for fun and cooling down in the summer months.
Our property is fully alarmed and equipped with CCTV inside and out for security. We are licensed, fully insured, trained in canine first aid and DBS checked. We always carry out a meet and greet session with your dog first (1-2 hrs, free of charge). This takes place at our home so that we can see if your dog will settle with us and is necessary in order to comply with licensing regulations. So long as you are happy, we also ask if you can pop out for a while so we can see how they behave without you.
Your dog will be supervised at all times, both in and outside of the home. We stay with your dog and do not leave the home during your dog’s stay with us, so they will not be left alone or unsupervised at any time.
Play and exercise
Your dog will have the opportunity to have two lovely walks a day, a minimum of twenty minutes each walk (usually 45mins), down country lanes, in parks or along the beach. Walks may be adjusted in extreme weather eg. Dogs are not walked in unsuitable temperatures, icy conditions or when thunder is likely. Walks may be adjusted to very early mornings and later in the evening during extreme heat. Dogs will also have the freedom to go in the garden several times a day to play or relax and we have paddling pools and cool mats to keep them happy. All dogs have direct access from the house to a safe, secure area of the garden.
We will provide a whole host of activities and puzzle toys for stimulation. Your dog will be exercised, cared for, played with, cuddled and loved. They will go home happy and content and you will receive regular updates and photos.
If your dog is elderly, we are more than happy to have it snuggle up with us or find a quiet spot to lay. We also have more gentle forms of fun like snuffle mats or sniff out the treats.
We will support and continue training with positive reinforcement. Exercise and play will be tailored to your individual dog and discussed during the meet and greet session. Welfare checks are carried out regularly so you can be reassured that your dog will receive the best care.
Health and Welfare
We know how much your dog means to you. For that very reason your dog will receive the utmost care. We will agree on a tailored plan of exercise, play and grooming, this will be your dog’s personal enrichment plan. They will receive full welfare checks throughout the day and checks to ensure that their enrichment plan is followed.
They will also have a designated room where they can go to be alone if they need some downtime.
In addition, your dogs will never be left alone.
Safety
We know how much your dog means to you and we take their safety very seriously. In addition to the various policies and procedures in place as required by licensing (available to view on request), we also provide or enforce the following to ensure the safety of your dog:
- CCTV in and outside the premises
- Alarm systems
- Carbon monoxide alarms
- Fire alarms
